Carotid ultrasound utilizes the same technology as echocardiography
to visualize the carotid arteries and evaluate the presence of plaque
and stenosis in the arteries of the neck. The study is noninvasive
and requires no preparation prior to the procedure. The presence
of significant atherosclerosis in the carotid arteries is a risk
factor for stroke. Fortunately, the early detection of stenosis
of the carotid arteries with appropriate treatment can effectively
prevent the devastating complications of this disease.
