ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY

Echocardiography takes pictures of the heart using ultrasound technology. Similar to a “sonogram,” an “echo” visualizes the heart chambers, muscle, and valvular structures in a completely non-invasive manner that allows characterization and quantification of the cardiac anatomy. Diagnoses such as mitral valve prolapse and left ventricular dysfunction are made with this imaging modality.
